Elders Orientation & Training

 

 

SECTION ONE:   PURPOSE

 

“Elders have been entrusted by those who elected them with the direction and governance of the church.   Elders are individually accountable to the congregation and government for their personal behaviour and collectively accountable to them for their governance of the church.”   (Governance Manual - Definition of Terms)

 

 

SECTION TWO:  PRACTICE

 

1.         Elders are nominated by the exiting board and elected by the membership.  Once elected their source of authority is the elders board.   (C/R Bylaws  Governance Manual - B3.5.1 and C1.1)

 

2.         Individual elders limits of authority, responsibilities and expectations are contained in the Governance Manual (Article B3.5).

           

 

SECTION THREE:    PROCEDURES

 

1.         The Board Chair provides prospective elders with a copy of the Board Reference Manual (Table of Contents .doc file).

 

2.         New elders are given CCCC DVD/Manual on “Serving As A Board Member”.  

 

3.         Training sessions and retreats are arranged on a regular basis by the Board Chair and the Senior Pastor.

 

4.         Elders and the voting members of the Administration Team are required to sign a Statement confirming there is no reason they would be ineligible to serve as a director (Declaration) .
